Raison Opticians is an independent family run practice, set up in 2013 by Brad and Libby Raison. They both studied Optometry at Cardiff university and after graduating in 2006 they moved to Cornwall. They married in Falmouth in 2012 and after their honeymoon decided to set up Raison Opticians.
Brad Raison

Brad has been in Optics since he was young, having worked at his father's practice in Yorkshire since he was 14. Brad has worked all over the county as a locum optometrist before settling to work in Helston. His patience and care ensure that everyone is given the time required to meet their needs.
Libby Raison

With over 20 years experience in optics Libby started her Optical career as a Saturday girl at an opticians in Falmouth. After spending 3 years training to be a dispensing optician in Cambridge, Libby moved to Cardiff to study Optometry. She is secretary of the Local Optical Committee and is currently working with Kernow Clinical Commisioning Group to improve the services and referral routes for people in Cornwall.
James Kerr

James started working in Optics in 1989 as a Dispensing Optician then studied to become an Optometrist at Bradford University, qualifying in 1996.He moved to Cornwall from Suffolk in 2006. When not testing eyes, he works as a Blacksmith and runs his own forge!
James King

James is a qualified dispensing optician and started his career working in East Cornwall & Helston before moving to the Bristol area in 2005. Having spent the past 15 years working as a locum in Bristol and the West Midlands he has now returned to Cornwall and back to his hometown of Helston. James enjoys travelling and has worked abroad with Vision Aid Overseas.
Lee Padgeth

Lee joined us at Raison Opticians to train as a trainee Dispensing Optician in 2015. After completing his studies at Helston Community College, he wanted to be able to stay in the county and pursue a career locally, whilst being able to continue his passion of playing football! He qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 2019 and is now studying for a certificate in Management and Leadership and is a member of the Local Optical Committee.
Laura Crow

Laura joined Raison Opticians in 2016 after running her own local coffee shop. With a huge experience in customer service and practical organisation, she ensures that the practice runs smoothly. Having completed her level 3 in Optical Support with ABDO in 2020 she is now able to assist our dispensing team whilst working alongside the reception team.
Jess Clark

Jess first came to Raison Opticians on work experience in 2019 and soon after we were able to offer her an apprenticeship here. She successfully completed her City & Guild Level 2 Diploma in Business Administration in January 2021 which has given her the confidence and skills to become an integral part of our Reception team.
Dawn Parkes

Dawn joined the team at the beginning of 2019 and is now one of our full-time receptionists. She has over 16 years’ experience in Optics and loves window dressing – thanks to her artistic flair!
