Raison Opticians is an independent family run practice, set up in 2013 by Brad and Libby Raison. They both studied Optometry at Cardiff university and after graduating in 2006 they moved to Cornwall. They married in Falmouth in 2012 and after their honeymoon decided to set up Raison Opticians.
Brad Raison
Brad has been immersed in the world of optics from a young age, beginning his career at just 14 in his father’s practice in Yorkshire. After qualifying, he gained extensive experience working as a locum optometrist across the county, caring for patients in a wide range of practices.
He is known for his calm, patient approach and genuine commitment to personalised care. He believes every patient deserves the time and attention needed to fully understand their eye health and visual needs, ensuring a thorough, comfortable, and reassuring experience at every visit.
Libby Raison
Libby has over 20 years’ experience in optics, having begun her career as a Saturday assistant at an opticians in Falmouth. Her passion for eye care led her to train as a dispensing optician in Cambridge, where she spent three years developing her technical and clinical skills.
She later moved to Cardiff to study Optometry and has since become a strong advocate for improving eye care services in Cornwall. She is the Secretary of the Local Optical Committee and currently works closely with Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group to help develop and improve local services and referral pathways, ensuring patients receive the best possible care.
James Kerr
James began his career in optics in 1989 as a Dispensing Optician before going on to study Optometry at Bradford University, qualifying in 1996. He brings extensive clinical experience to his work and moved to Cornwall from Suffolk in 2006.
James has a particular interest in contact lenses and myopia control, helping patients of all ages achieve the best possible vision outcomes. Outside the consulting room, he has a unique creative outlet — working as a blacksmith and running his own forge when he’s not testing eyes.
Michelle Stubley
Originally from the Midlands, Michelle trained for a career in optics while raising her family. After completing her diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing in Cambridge, she now brings over 20 years of experience to the practice.
Michelle recently fulfilled her dream of moving to Cornwall and, when she’s not at work, enjoys coastal walks with her dog, making the most of the Cornish lifestyle.
